Practise makes perfect

Hi everyone - and thankyou so much Anita, this is so groovy. It has taken me a while to work out how to get onto this blog being the techno whizz that I am - and I am not sure that I am on track yet, but we will see. Wonderful to read your posts and see how this is working for you all, and neat to see that you recognise baby-steps mean you won't fall over. The NZCA Conference was very very good, they had arranged a programme that was SO strong with brilliant presentations for infants and toddlers. Dr Gabriella Puspoki, second in charge at the Pikler Institute, gave a keynote speech which was laden with new information about the details which make the difference, and her followup workshop likewise. Their fantastic preparation for the settling-in process is something we could learn from. I did get the CDs of the 2 sessions, and although I am a bit pushed for time (she says after spending the afternoon doing sudoku) I could get you a copy if you are interested. Might not be as quickly as you would like though. Send postal address. The Childspace presentation on their (now Budget slashed) COI around this way of being and Primary Care was nothing short of brilliant. They had videos which showed what exemplary care looks like. Look out for PD from Childspace with Natasha Kibble around this, or even contact her and see what you can work out together. Love to you all as we learn to walk this path of Respect.

Baby Steps!

Hi everyone,

I am now settled into a new room, (over two's) we are working together really well, I realise the importance to remember to just notice, especailly when the information soup is being muddled by someones (unfriendly) vibes being sent my way. Baby steps, I understand now that it is a slow process to change my own 'tapes' that have been inside my subconcience for many years.

Well I found my balance! "What have YOU done today to make you feel proud?" Back to work tomorrow and looking forward to it!

Group Photo

p.s can someone email me the group photo so that I can put it on - anitakorey@xtra.co.nz !! Thanks

OMG!!!!

I am so excited to log on and see you guys here! See it was easy! The blog was easyto set up but things for me have been hard since I got home. I have not been back to work yet as I have had a sinus infection, but I have been strangely reluctant to go back, so much is happening and so much is up in the air! Last week brought up alot for me about balance and how I have to find my own. I can't do the best for the chilren in my care if I am so kerfuffled that I can't even find my inner calm! So I am off to a meeting with my manager now to try to find my balance! Wish me luck.!
Luv
Anita

A sense of calmness

I know what you mean about being a source of calm Jemma. I had 2 primary care children start yesterday and they did not settle very well so I started my day by looking after 2 upset children. A couple of work mates kept asking me if I was alright & if I needed help & they seemed quite stressed about the situation I was in. I felt extremely calm & declined and continued to talk calmly to my 2 babies, within moments they were fully involved with me and we had quite a special moment happening. Normally I would get stressed out with this situation but this time I felt incredibly calm, it was amazing! I was also amazed that it was day 2 for one of the babies and there was absolutely no tears at all!
I found it quite hard yesterday when my team leader kept on asking me what I want to change round the place after being on the course & how we should improve. She wants me to start changing everything and is really laying on the pressure. I've tried explaining that we can not do it like that and we need to ease into it but not sure if I am being heard. Hope everyone is enjoying being back at work.

Mindfood Magazine July/ August 2009 pp58-63

Mindfood Magazine

You know how when you are aware of something, suddenly it is everywhere. Mindfood magazine has an article this month about our fantastic brains and it focuses on the triune brain, and in particular the importance of the primary caregiver in helping the baby's brain develop in the first two years, through.... close, focused eye contact... website is www.mindfood.com, I will try to scan the article tomorrow, if it isn't available online. I had to read it out loud to my flatmates, I was so blown away that was exactly what we had been discovering last week... little ripples...baby steps... encourage parents to read it...

Hey everyone!

Yay it makes me so happy to know that everyone is just a type away lol! I was very nervous going back to work on friday afer the two weeks I had just had, i walked into my room and everything had been changed around!!! I took some time just to notice how I was feeling....A bit gutted. For the rest of the day I just stood back and noticed eveything around me, and the day went well, I felt like i was a source of calm that day if that made sense? I have put it out to the universe that I would love to work somewhere that respects and values who I am, so I'm excited to see what happens.....Thanx Anitia for starting this blog, looking forward to keeping in touch with everyone!

Well done Anita!

This is fantastic Anita!!! Havn't done this before either! I also had Friday off and I must say for the first time on a Sunday night I can't wait to get back to work tomorrow!!! Normally I am cursing that the weekend went by too quickly but I am now full of enthusiasm and can't wait! I have 2 primary children starting tomorrow so am looking forward to having a fresh start with 2 children after this course. Hope everyone has a fantastic week just noticing!

First Time Caller

Hey Anita - great going! This is a new experience for me ... I have never participated in a blog before. I am being very brave. Gayle and I just got home about an hour ago. We were delayed by a few hours because there was a massive dump of snow all over Alexandra and the roads were closed. I wonder if this is what Pennie was asking for when she wished for snow in the South Island! Look forward to keeping in touch with all you Babys'pacers ... TTFN. Debbie.
